Fishing Report 3/27/2024

San Juan, New Mexico The flows are at 352 cfs.    

The fishing has been pretty good lately. So try throwing junk flies. Leaches, SJ worms and egg patterns.

 Nymphing as always,. The wade fishing is picking up and should get even better as the fish get back in the swing of the normal flows.

Flies: Annelids, San Juan Worms, Egg Patterns. Midges, RS-2, 

Dry’s: Griffiths Gnat, Black Ants.

You can always Euro Nymph on the river with. Duracell’s in Natural, Duracell Bomb HE. 

 

 
 
 San Juan in Town.  

The flow is at 92.4 Csf 

The Flows are going up and down with the recent snow. The river has been be ok, best places are behind the Malt Shop and around the hot springs down to the apache street bridge. There is open water behind the Malt shop and all the way down to Yamaguchi Park.

Nymphs:  Prince Nymphs standard, blue and jigged, Flashback PT’S, Brillion’s Mean Machine , Rainbow Warriors  Iron Lotus, Jig Frenchie’s, Quill Bodied Jig Hares Ear, Bishop’s Dynamite in green, Jig Perdigon in orange and purple, Brillon’s Lucent H.E. Jig. you just might want to thrown some streamers.

Dry’s: Small Midge dries. Chubby’s

Nymph’s: Sexy Walts, Duracell, Tasmanian Devils.

Williams Creek: 

The river is open but your going to have to post hole to the river but with that said it’s not fishing that bad.

Nymphs:  Jigged Princes, Frenchies, Quillidigon in Natural, Surveyors, 20 Bombs and 20 inchers,  Iron Lotus, Brillon’s Lucent H.E. Jig on the swing all colors, Pats Rubber Legs, Baby Goldon stone, Blow Torch, Lighting bug in Purple. Duracell in brown and Pt, Tasmanian Devils. 

Dry Flies: Chubby’s, Caddis patterns

Above the lake: 

Ice

Nymphs: Jig and Standard princes, Hares Ears, Rainbow Warriors, Stone Bombs, Brillon’s Lucent H.E. Jig on the swing all colors on the swing, Pats Rubber legs.

Dry’s: Chubby’s

Williams Creek Reservoir Echo Lake and the PLPOA lakes:

Williams Creek Reservoir is fishing well and the Ice is about 18′ thick. The PLPOA lake are starting to open up and the is is thin. Echo lake is open. Capote lake and open to the public 

Flies: Semi Seal Leaches all colors. Wooly Buggers. If the wind picks up Frenchies, Princes, Hares ears floated under an indicator. 

Dry’s: Para Hares Ears, Antonio’s Superman

Piedra River: 

 The Flow at 127 CFS 
The upper river has started to open up but we have had no reports. The Ute water is fishing well.

Nymphs: Jigged and Standard Pt’s, Hares Ears, Princes Standard and blue and Jigged, Pats Rubber Legs, Quillidigon in Natural and Pink, Quill bodied H.E. Brillon’s Lucent H.E. Smethurts Stone and 20 bombs.

Dry Flies : Chubby’s  Para Hares ear

 Animas River, Durango:  

Flow: 191 CfS 

Flows are low, so trout will be more concentrated in likely holding water.  wading can be a little difficult with the ice so wade carefully. You just have to get your depth right and you’ll find some eaters.

Dry’s:  some hatches around midday. 

Best Flies:  Stone fly patterns, Pat’s Rubber Legs, Pheasant tails, Pt Spectra 94, Caddis and many of our Competition Flies,

Dry’s Have some small chubby’s. Caddis, Para hare’s.

 

 

 

Rio Chama: 

                                                                                           

Flow above town 70 cfs, Below El Vado 500 CFS

Best flies Nymphs: Stonefly Nymphs, Prince Nymphs, Blow torches.

Best Flies Dry:  Caddis and Hoppers.

Pass and Park Creeks: Ice

Dry’s: 

Nymph’s: Small PT’s and Hares ears, Quillidigon in Natural and Pink

South Fork of The Rio Grande: Big Meadows: Fishing well. There has been people using cast using cast nets to catch fish in the river. If you see this please report them to CPW.

Flow is at 542 cfs at South fork.

Dry Flies: Stimi, Chubby’s

Nymph’s: Princes, Rainbow warriors, Stonebombs, Brillon’s Lucent H.E. Jig on the swing all colors.

Rio Grande, Colorado: 

The flows at Wagon Wheel Gap CFS. 30 Mile CC Ice on both gauges

The Rio is open and fish has picked up in and around the coller state wildlife area above South Fork. 
Nymphs: Stone flies, Princes, Hair Ears, Semi Seal Leaches, Streamers, Pat’s rubber legs Go big with your flies.

Dry’s: .  Midges

Coller SWA on the Rio Grande:

Open and fishing is not that bad

Dry Flies: Small Para Hares and Adams

Nymphs: Leach Patterns, Streamers, Pat’s Rubber legs, Smethurt’s Stone and 20 bombs, Hare on Fire, Lighting Perdigon, Purple Perdigon.

 Conejos River: Ice

The Flows at Magote (lower river) 72  cfs and below Platoro (Upper River) 8 Cfs.

Upper River:  The road is closed

Lower River:  Jig Head Princes, Hares Ears, Semi Seal Leaches Brillon’s Lucent H.E. on the swing all colors.

Drys: Go small when you see risers.
