Fishing Report 4/25/2024
San Juan, New Mexico The flows are at 357 cfs.
The fishing has been pretty good lately. With the drop in flows the water is getting clearer. Leaches, SJ worms and egg patterns.
Nymphing as always,. The wade fishing is picking up and should get even better as the fish get back in the swing of the normal flows.
Flies: Annelids, San Juan Worms, Egg Patterns. Midges, RS-2,
Dry’s: Griffiths Gnat, Black Ants.
You can always Euro Nymph on the river with. Duracell’s in Natural, Duracell Bomb HE.
The flow is at 1460 Csf Rafting Time
The Flows are going up with the snow melt. The river is in Runoff so it time to wait on the river. With temps to be climbing the flows will only go up!
Nymphs: Prince Nymphs standard and Jigged, blue and jigged, Flashback PT’S, Brillion’s Mean Machine , Rainbow Warriors Iron Lotus, Jig Frenchie’s, Quill Bodied Jig Hares Ear, Bishop’s Dynamite in green, Jig Perdigon in orange and purple, Brillon’s Lucent H.E. Jig, Sexy Walts, Duracell, Tasmanian Devils. You just might want to thrown some streamers. Poachers in Black, all colors of Balanced Leaches.
Dry’s: Small Midge dries. Chubby’s
Williams Creek:
The fishing has been pretty good below the lake and in and around Bridge CC.
Nymphs: Jigged Princes, Frenchies, Quillidigon in Natural, Surveyors, 20 Bombs and 20 inchers, Iron Lotus, Brillon’s Lucent H.E. Jig on the swing all colors, Pats Rubber Legs, Baby Goldon stone, Blow Torch, Lighting bug in Purple. Duracell in brown and Pt, Tasmanian Devils.
Dry Flies: Chubby’s, Caddis patterns
Above the lake:
The Road is still closed. and the river is flushing in some dirty water into the lake.
Nymphs: Jig and Standard princes, Hares Ears, Rainbow Warriors, Stone Bombs, Brillon’s Lucent H.E. Jig on the swing all colors on the swing, Pats Rubber legs.
Dry’s: Chubby’s
Williams Creek Reservoir Echo Lake and the PLPOA lakes:
William Reservoir ice came off on 4/17 and is fishing well the fish are eating. PLPOA lake are starting to fish well and are ice free. Echo lake is open. Capote lake and open to the public
Nymphs: Jigged and Standard Pt’s, Hares Ears, Princes Standard and blue and Jigged, Pats Rubber Legs, Quillidigon in Natural and Pink, Quill bodied H.E. Brillon’s Lucent H.E. Smethurts Stone and 20 bombs.
Dry Flies : Chubby’s Para Hares ear
Animas River, Durango:
Flow: 1600 CfS
Big flashy flies just might be the ticket. Caddis larva, mayfly nymphs, and even stonefly nymph rigs are a must. Streamer fishing this time of year just might be the way to go if your looking for some bigger fish Watch for hatches of baetis midday too for dry fly action.
Dry’s: some hatches around midday.
Best Flies: Stone fly patterns, Pat’s Rubber Legs, Pheasant tails, Pt Spectra 94, Caddis and many of our Competition Flies,
Dry’s Have some small chubby’s. Caddis, Para hare’s.
Rio Chama:
Flow above town no data ava. cfs, Below El Vado 1400 CFS
The river is starting to color up and the fishing is slow.
Best flies Nymphs: Stonefly Nymphs, Prince Nymphs, Blow torches.
Best Flies Dry: Caddis and Hoppers.
Pass and Park Creeks: High flows
Dry’s:
Nymph’s: Small PT’s and Hares ears, Quillidigon in Natural and Pink
South Fork of The Rio Grande: Big Meadows: Fishing well. There has been people using cast using cast nets to catch fish in the river. If you see this please report them to CPW.
Flow is at 542 cfs at South fork.
Dry Flies: Stimi, Chubby’s
Nymph’s: Princes, Rainbow warriors, Stonebombs, Brillon’s Lucent H.E. Jig on the swing all colors.
Rio Grande, Colorado:
The flows at Wagon Wheel Gap 1250 CFS. 112 Mile CC 368 CFS
Big flies are the way to go.
Nymphs: Stone flies, Princes, Hair Ears, Semi Seal Leaches, Streamers, Pat’s rubber legs Go big with your flies.
Dry’s: . Midges
The Flows at Magote (lower river) 821 CFS and below Platoro (Upper River) 225 CFS.
The river is start to color up. according to our friends living at Sheep Creek.
Upper River: No reports
Lower River: Jig Head Princes, Hares Ears, Semi Seal Leaches Brillon’s Lucent H.E. on the swing all colors.
